Punjab government to digitize all toll plazas for improved transparency

The Punjab government has announced plans to digitize all toll plazas across the province to enhance transparency and improve the travel experience for citizens. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who approved the elimination of the manual receipt system at toll plazas, replacing it with a modern, digital system.

Under the new system, a “One App, One System” model, similar to the one used on motorways, will be introduced at 38 toll plazas across Punjab. The initiative aims to streamline toll collection and improve efficiency.

The meeting also covered updates on various development projects, including those related to transport, construction, energy conservation, and urban beautification. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved five major road projects to be developed through public-private partnerships, aiming to reduce costs and speed up completion by involving private firms alongside government agencies.

It was highlighted that the province has saved Rs 40 billion through e-tendering, demonstrating enhanced transparency in project procurement. The chief minister also directed the installation of solar streetlights on newly constructed roads to promote energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure.

In addition to road projects, several initiatives were approved to enhance Lahore’s beauty, including the installation of a fountain and a miniature train for children near the railway station park, as well as new roads and footpaths in the station’s vicinity.

Officials also reported that 54 major bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged in recent floods have been fully restored, with road rehabilitation projects in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal also completed.
