Sindh enforces province-wide ban on protests and public gatherings under Section 144

KARACHI: The Sindh government has imposed Section 144 across the province for one month, banning all forms of protests, sit-ins, processions, and public gatherings with immediate effect.

According to a notification issued by Sindh Home Secretary Muhammad Iqbal Memon, the decision was taken to maintain public order and prevent any potential disturbance to peace. The order prohibits gatherings of five or more people and authorizes law enforcement to take action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code in case of violations.

The restrictions came into effect on Sunday, October 12, and will remain in place for the next 30 days. The provincial government said the move is a preventive measure amid rising security concerns.

Earlier, the Rawalpindi administration had also enforced Section 144 for four days to restrict public gatherings, protests, and pillion riding after Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) announced its “Aqsa March” toward the US Embassy in Islamabad. The order cited intelligence reports warning of possible threats to public safety and property in sensitive areas.
