The federal government has introduced electronic balloting for the distribution of electric two- and three-wheelers under the Pakistan Accelerated Vehicle Electrification (PAVE) Scheme. The initiative, which aims to promote cleaner and more affordable transport, was inaugurated on Wednesday by Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum, with officials from the Engineering Development Board (EDB) in attendance.
A total of 40,000 electric motorcycles and 1,000 electric rickshaws have been allocated to successful applicants across Pakistan, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The scheme received 269,161 applications, and the computerized balloting was conducted through the PAVE Online Portal, with results accessible using applicants’ CNIC or application ID. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) will be responsible for delivery, warranties, and after-sales services.
The subsidy program offers Rs. 50,000 for electric two-wheelers purchased via leasing and Rs. 80,000 for self-financed purchases. For electric three-wheelers, the subsidy is Rs. 200,000 via leasing and Rs. 400,000 for self-financed purchases.
This initiative is in line with the National Electric Vehicle Policy (NEVP), with projections including annual fuel savings of $1 billion, a reduction of 4.5 million tons of carbon emissions, and the creation of over 100,000 green jobs.
