UNRWA chief says schools in Gaza ‘completely destroyed’

GAZA: The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees has warned that schools in Gaza have been “completely destroyed” as people are forced to live among the rubble, with daily survival focused on finding food and water, Al Jazeera reports.

“Gaza schools have been completely destroyed, people are living in the rubble, the main concern on a daily basis is finding food and water,” Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of UNRWA, said in a video posted on X.

Despite the widespread destruction, Lazzarini stressed that the agency continues to operate.

“Our schools are open, our health centres are running, and we continue to deliver critical services to the population,” he said.

Child among 3 wounded in Israeli attack on aid seekers

Three Palestinians, including a child, have been wounded by an Israeli attack targeting displaced people on Al-Rashid Street, which runs along the Gaza Strip’s coast, Al Jazeera reports.

Meanwhile, an infant has died due to malnutrition and inadequate medical treatment at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, Al Jazeera reports.

The enclave’s Health Ministry has reported that 440 people, including 147 children, have died of starvation or malnutrition during Israel’s offensive in Gaza.

Ex-senator says ‘next 3 days and 3 nights’ crucial for Global Sumud Flotilla

Ex-senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, who is leading the Pakistani delegation on the Global Sumud Flotilla aid mission, has said that the boats have resumed their journey to the Gaza Strip.

“These 3 days and 3 nights are very critical and high-risk. Israel has deployed its Navy Commando Unit 13 against the flotilla,” Khan wrote.

“Communication jamming, radio jamming, hacking WhatsApp groups, drone flights and underwater sabotage activities are all being carried out by the Zionist, racist, illegitimate state of Israel to stop us, but it will fail.”

On the other hand, the enclave’s health ministry said that at least 40 people have been killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip since dawn, according to medical sources speaking to Al Jazeera.

A source at the Baptist Hospital in Gaza City said a child was among two people who were killed in Israeli bombardment in the Sabra neighbourhood in the city’s south.
