Pakistani national repatriated from India via Attari-Wagah border

LAHORE: The Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi confirmed the repatriation of Raqib Bilal, a Pakistani national who had been imprisoned in India. Bilal returned to Pakistan on September 29, 2025, via the Attari-Wagah border.

The High Commission reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to repatriating all its nationals held in Indian jails. According to the most recent list exchanged between the two countries, India currently holds 463 Pakistani nationals, including 382 civilians and 81 fishermen.

Under the Agreement on Consular Access, Pakistan and India exchange lists of prisoners every January 1 and July 1. In the most recent exchange, Pakistan called for the immediate release of prisoners who have completed their sentences and whose national status has been confirmed. The government also urged India to provide consular access to those who have not yet received it.

In turn, Pakistan handed over a list of 246 Indian prisoners, including 193 fishermen, to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
