Shaza pledges full backing for indigenous PC hardware manufacturers to cut imports, save forex

KARACHI: Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khwaja on Saturday pledged the government’s full backing for Pakistan’s local PC hardware manufacturers, calling indigenous production vital to cutting import dependence, conserving foreign exchange, and making technology more affordable.

Speaking at ITCN Asia — the country’s largest IT and technology exhibition — Shaza Khwaja lauded the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) for promoting local hardware manufacturing and advancing the ‘Made-in-Pakistan’ vision. She said Pakistan’s digital transformation required homegrown hardware solutions that could empower businesses, educators, and individuals while driving innovation.

This year’s expo in Karachi spotlighted a wide range of locally designed and manufactured computing products, including AI-enabled laptops, tablets, desktops, and all-in-one PCs tailored for enterprises, education, and gaming sectors. Built with advanced Intel processors and IoT features, the products are supported by managed IT services for data centers in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.

Industry experts stressed that Pakistan’s demographic advantage — with over 60 per cent of its population under 30 — was central to building a robust digital economy. Skill development programs and partnerships with global technology companies, they said, were already helping reduce import reliance and foster technological self-sufficiency.

Viper Technology, Pakistan’s leading PC brand and flagship of the Viper Group, showcased its latest hardware innovations at the exhibition. With more than three decades of experience, the company highlighted its evolution from simple assembly to full-scale manufacturing. Viper reaffirmed its commitment to powering Pakistan’s digital future through affordable, AI- and IoT-driven solutions designed and built locally.

Shaza Khwaja underscored that supporting local industry was not only an economic necessity but also a strategic imperative. “By investing in indigenous hardware, we are investing in Pakistan’s future — one where innovation, affordability, and sustainability go hand in hand,” she said.
