ISLAMABAD: Two Chinese planes carrying relief goods, inlcuding 300 tents and 9,000 blankets, arrived here in Islamabad on Sunday to assist the families displaced by the recent floods.
The consignment was formally received at a ceremony attended by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engr. Amir Muqam, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt-Gen Inam Haider Malik, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking at the event, the NDMA chairman said the aid once again underscored China’s role as Pakistan’s “steadfast friend,” pointing out that the timely relief would bolster ongoing efforts to provide shelter and essential supplies to flood-stricken communities, particularly in Punjab.
Amir Muqam thanked Beijing for its swift response, saying the solidarity of the Chinese government and people would bring immediate relief to thousands of families who lost their homes and livelihoods in the disaster. He added that such cooperation reflected the “iron brotherhood” between the two countries.
