Pakistan team to skip Asia Cup match against UAE, reports confirms

The Pakistan cricket team will reportedly not play their Asia Cup 2025 match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Wednesday, according to media reports.

Geo News reported that the players were instructed to return to their rooms, with the team bus parked outside the entrance to unload the players’ equipment. Earlier footage from DawnNewsTV showed team staff loading kit bags into a bus that was initially headed to the stadium.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to make a final decision on the team’s participation today, following the handshake controversy in their match against India.

PCB spokesperson Amir Mir stated, “Consultations are ongoing, and a final decision will be made by tomorrow, keeping Pakistan’s interests in mind.”

This decision was followed by Pakistan’s choice to cancel their pre-match press conference before the UAE game, although the team did attend practice ahead of the match.

This situation recalls past instances in international cricket where teams have tried to change match officials, including the 2001 India-South Africa test where India sought the removal of match referee Mike Denness.
