CM Gandapur defends PTI over May 9 events, condemns politics over martyrs

RAWALPINDI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Amin Gandapur on Tuesday defended his party while criticising what he called attempts to politicise the sacrifices of martyrs.

Speaking to media in Rawalpindi, Gandapur said he came from a military family and highlighted that his brother had fought in the Kargil war. He described the use of martyrs for political point-scoring as “disgraceful” and termed recent remarks by federal ministers as “deeply regrettable”. The chief minister also announced he would personally visit the home of Shaheed Major Adnan.

On national issues, Gandapur called for dialogue and policy-based solutions. “We have consistently called for meaningful talks. The only way forward is through policies and concrete actions,” he stressed.

Addressing the events of May 9, Gandapur distanced PTI from the violence, insisting the incidents were not sanctioned by the party leadership. “May 9 was never part of our party policy. Any violations were individual actions,” he said.

Reaffirming his loyalty to PTI founder Imran Khan, the chief minister said Khan remains his leader and clarified that the party’s official Twitter account is still managed by those who were given access by the former premier. Gandapur added that PTI continues to follow the vision of its founding leader and not any other ideology.
