Another US consignment arrives carrying food, shelter, and emergency supplies

ISLAMABAD:The United States has delivered emergency relief assistance to Pakistan following weeks of catastrophic floods and torrential rains that displaced millions and destroyed homes and farmland.

According to a statement issued by the US Department of State on Sunday, Washington “stands with the people of Pakistan, whose lives have been uprooted by widespread, devastating flooding.”

The first consignments arrived at Nur Khan Air Base via C-17 and C-130 aircraft, carrying food, shelter, and emergency supplies. US Mission to Pakistan Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker was present at the airbase as the shipments were unloaded. She conveyed condolences, saying the US was “profoundly saddened by the loss of life and destruction of homes and livelihoods.”

The statement added that the US military had flown in critical equipment for the Pakistan Army to support relief operations. “In response to a request from the Government of Pakistan, the Department of State and US military approved foreign assistance funding and critical supplies to augment national response efforts,” Baker said.

Last week, the US announced a relief package for Pakistan in the wake of the floods—the first major international aid initiative under the Trump administration, state-run PTV reported. The package includes funding for food, shelter, and emergency support, with assistance to be delivered in coordination with Pakistani authorities and trusted humanitarian organisations.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the consignment was formally handed over to the Pakistan Army at Nur Khan Air Base by Baker and the Commander of US ARCENT. The supplies will be dispatched to Army Flood Relief Camps for onward distribution.

“The government and people of Pakistan are thankful to the US government and military for standing by the affected population in these testing times,” ISPR said.
