RAWALPINDI: The Nawaz Sharif Flyover at Khawaja Corporation Chowk on Adiala Road has officially opened to public traffic, marking the completion of a significant infrastructure project. Although Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had scheduled the official inauguration for June 30, the ceremony has been postponed.
The flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs2.3 billion, is part of a larger development initiative, which also includes two underpasses and an underground pedestrian walkway on Mall Road, costing over Rs4.38 billion. While these additional projects have been completed, they remain closed until a new inauguration date is set by the Chief Minister.
Officials from the Punjab Communication and Works Department confirmed that once approved, the underpasses on Mall Road will be opened to the public, similar to the early opening of the Nawaz Sharif Flyover. Additionally, plans for further infrastructure development, including underpasses at Qasim Market, Race Course, and Chairing Cross on Peshawar Road, are in place. A proposal for two flyovers and three underpasses at Kachehri Chowk is also under consideration, though no official timeline has been announced for the commencement of these projects.
