Pak-China agricultural collaboration deepens with signing of Sino-Pak cooperation agreement in Zhengzhou

ISLAMABAD: A 10-member high-level agricultural delegation from Gwadar has concluded a successful five-day visit to Zhengzhou, Henan Province in China, from June 16-20.

A major achievement during the visit was the signing of a Sino-Pak Scientific and Technological Cooperation Agreement at Henan Agricultural University. This agreement focuses on the introduction and comprehensive utilization of Paulownia and other plants, setting the stage for joint research and technology transfer between China and Pakistan.

The visit marked a significant step forward in fostering cooperation between Pakistan and China, particularly in agriculture, education, and ecological development.

The delegation, consisting of agricultural experts and representatives from local enterprises, engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions and explored numerous collaboration opportunities. One of the first highlights of the visit was a tour of the Zhengzhou Garden Expo’s state-of-the-art tissue culture laboratory and nursery base, where the delegation learned about China’s advanced plant propagation techniques and nursery management systems.

Educational cooperation was another key aspect of the visit. The delegation visited primary and secondary schools in the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, where discussions on potential student and faculty exchanges took place. Additionally, the group was keen on exploring China’s successful model of integrating ecological farming concepts into school curricula, a practice they aim to replicate in Gwadar.

At the Henan Academy of Sciences, the delegation participated in technical discussions with researchers at the Laser Manufacturing Research Institute. The focus was on the potential application of laser technology in Gwadar’s agricultural sector, with particular emphasis on enhancing production and processing techniques.

The delegation also visited Zhongmu County’s garlic planting base, gaining valuable insights into high-yield cultivation and post-harvest processing methods. These insights are expected to play a vital role in enhancing agricultural practices in Gwadar.

In addition to their agricultural and educational engagements, the delegation also explored China’s rich cultural heritage, including a visit to the world-famous Shaolin Temple. Business networking opportunities were further explored during discussions with Yulin Holding, where potential investment projects were discussed.

Experts believe that these exchanges, particularly within the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), will contribute significantly to Gwadar’s development as an agricultural hub and enhance regional food security.

Owais Mir, a member of the delegation, expressed optimism about implementing the knowledge gained from the visit to boost Gwadar’s agricultural productivity and exports.
