HYDERABAD: The seventh death anniversary of Rasool Bux Palijo, a prominent Sindhi nationalist leader, was observed with a public meeting organized by the Awami Tehreek (AT) in Thatta on Saturday. The gathering was marked by chants against corporate farming and the exploitation of Sindh’s resources. Participants passed 31 resolutions, which included calls for the abolition of legislation undermining the constitution, the implementation of the 1940 resolution, and the restoration of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s August 11, 1947 speech.
The party also demanded the halt of new canal and dam constructions, the repeal of the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) ordinance, and an end to what they termed ‘daaku raaj’ in Sindh. Advocate Vasand Thari, President of AT, reiterated that the people of Sindh rejected corporate farming projects and warned that the construction of new dams would face the same opposition as the controversial Kalabagh Dam. He accused proponents of such projects of being enemies of Jinnah’s vision for Pakistan, blaming the establishment for compromising the country’s sovereignty.
Advocate Akhtar Hussain, President of the Awami Workers Party (AWP), praised Palijo as a genius and revolutionary, while Farooq Tariq, Chairman of the Haqooq-e-Khalq Party, lauded Palijo’s dedication to Sindh and its people. The event also featured a parade by girls in red uniforms, carrying the Awami Tehreek’s flag, honoring the legacy of Rasool Bux Palijo.
