2 women die, child among 3 missing as tourist boat capsizes in Swat

  • Locals rescue one youth, shift to hospital for medical aid

SWAT: At least two tourist women were killed and three others, including a child, were missing after a boat capsized at the tourist resort of Shahi Bagh in Swat’s Utror Valley, police officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to the police, seven tourists, including women and children, were aboard the boat, adding that one youth was rescued.

Madyan Police Circle DSP Jehanzeb Khan confirmed that all the tourists involved in the accident were residents of Shergarh area of the Mardan district.

The deceased women were identified as 35-year-old Fatima, wife of Bashir Zamin, and 21-year-old Asiya, daughter of Muhammad Zamin. The missing individuals include 15-year-old Awais, son of Muhammad Zamin, and two children of Faisal—7-year-old Umar and 5-year-old Anabia.

Local residents rescued 13-year-old Sudais, son of Muhammad Zamin, who was immediately shifted to the hospital for medical treatment, while the boat’s operator, Shah Khalid, sustained minor injuries.

According to Malik Saeed Khan, chairman of the local village council, the accident occurred when the boat’s engine suddenly failed, causing its operator to lose control and capsize in the river.

Rescue operations were promptly initiated by local residents, police, and Rescue 1122 teams.

The district administration and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
