Five firefighters injured as fire engulfs factories in Karachi’s Landhi zone

KARACHI: A fire broke out early Sunday morning in a factory located in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone and rapidly spread to three adjacent units, injuring at least five firefighters.

According to Rescue 1122 officials, the fire escalated quickly due to the presence of flammable materials, including stored chemicals and textiles. All injured firefighters were personnel of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and were immediately transported to a hospital for medical care.

One firefighter remains in critical condition after part of the burning structure collapsed during the operation. Rescue efforts were hindered by dense smoke and a shortage of water in the area.

Authorities have declared the affected buildings structurally unsafe. While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, officials have pointed to the stored hazardous materials as key factors in the fire’s rapid expansion.

Emergency teams are continuing to assess the damage and investigate the origin of the incident.
