Brad Pitt has broken his silence on the long-awaited finalization of his divorce settlement with Angelina Jolie, offering a candid yet measured response about the conclusion of the drawn-out legal battle. In a May 28 feature published by GQ focusing on his new film F1, Pitt was asked whether the December 2024 settlement brought him any sense of relief.
“No, I don’t think it was that major of a thing,” Pitt told the magazine. “Just something coming to fruition. Legally.”
When questioned about whether his first public appearance with partner Ines de Ramon at the 2024 British Grand Prix was a planned move, Pitt dismissed the idea. “No, dude, it’s not that calculated,” he said. “If you’re living—oh my God, how exhausting would that be? If you’re living with making those kinds of calculations? No, life just evolves. Relationships evolve.”
Discussing life in the public eye, Pitt acknowledged the challenges but emphasized his focus on a close-knit circle. “It’s been an annoyance I’ve had to always deal with in different degrees, large and small, as I do the things I really want to do… My life is fairly contained. It feels pretty warm and secure with my friends, with my loves, with my fam, with my knowledge of who I am.”
The GQ story also featured insights from director Joseph Kosinski and co-stars Damson Idris and Lewis Hamilton on the making of F1, which releases June 27. Pitt said working on the high-speed racing film reignited his passion for moviemaking. “It just reinvigorated the whole thing again for me,” he said.
Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, over a decade after meeting Pitt on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Following the settlement, Jolie’s lawyer James Simon told USA TODAY that Angelina was “exhausted, but relieved this one part is over.” The statement highlighted Jolie’s focus on healing and peace for their family after leaving shared properties.
The former couple share six children: Maddox (23), Pax (21), Zahara (20), Shiloh (19), and 18-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. In May 2024, Shiloh legally changed her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, dropping her hyphenated surname. Around the same time, Vivienne also removed “Pitt” from her name in the credits for the Broadway musical The Outsiders, which Jolie produced.
Beyond the divorce, Pitt and Jolie have also been engaged in legal disputes involving their winery, Château Miraval, as well as custody arrangements for their children.
