PMD forecasts windstorms and thunderstorms across upper, central Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted windstorm and rain-thunderstorm activity in the upper and central regions of the country from the night of May 27 until May 31, with occasional breaks.

Moist air currents are steadily moving into these areas, while a westerly wave is expected to enter the upper parts of the country on May 28, triggering widespread weather disturbances.

Under this system’s influence, windstorms, rain-thunderstorms, isolated heavy rainfall, and hailstorms are likely in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh.

On Sunday morning, temperatures were recorded at 18°C in Islamabad, 24°C in Lahore, 31°C in Karachi, 23°C in Peshawar, 24°C in Quetta, 17°C in Gilgit, 12°C in Murree, and 19°C in Muzaffarabad.

In the Indian-administered Kashmir region, Srinagar, Pulwama, and Baramulla recorded temperatures of 14°C; Jammu was at 22°C; Leh at 7°C; and Anantnag and Shopian at 13°C.
