PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced the early disbursement of salaries and pensions for all provincial government employees, directing that payments be made by May 30 ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
According to an official notification issued by the Finance Department, all provincial departments and affiliated institutions have been instructed to ensure that payments are processed before the month ends, as June 1 falls on a Sunday—a non-working day.
The early disbursement aims to facilitate public servants in making preparations for Eid-ul-Azha, which is expected in the first week of June, depending on the sighting of the Zul-Hijjah moon.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs has summoned a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on May 27 in Islamabad to determine the start of the Islamic month of Zul-Hijjah. The session will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, with zonal committees also meeting the same evening in provincial capitals to assist in collecting crescent sighting testimonies.
A ministry spokesperson stated that if the moon is sighted on May 27, Eid will fall on June 6. However, if the crescent is not visible, the festival will be observed on June 7.
An independent astronomical forecast suggests the moon is more likely to be visible on May 28, making June 7 the probable date for Eidul Azha across most parts of the country.
