PM Shehbaz Sharif offers peace talks with India, stresses Kashmir as core issue after military success

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s readiness to engage in peace talks with India, emphasizing that the dialogue must focus on the Kashmir issue and the right to self-determination for Kashmiris. He made these remarks during a visit to the Kamra air base on Thursday, where he met with Pakistan Air Force pilots and personnel.

Shehbaz Sharif insisted that any talks with India should address Kashmir in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions. He also rejected accusations against Pakistan regarding the Pahalgam incident, calling for a transparent investigation while criticizing India for responding with aggression instead.

The prime minister praised the Pakistan Air Force for defending the nation in one of the longest aerial battles of the 21st century, highlighting their success in downing Indian aircraft and establishing air superiority. He congratulated the armed forces for their courage and professionalism, saying the world witnessed Pakistan’s capability from May 6 to May 10 during the conflict.

Accompanied by senior civil and military officials, Shehbaz Sharif said the conflict sent a strong message to India and elevated Pakistan’s standing internationally. He stated that despite India’s larger population and expensive military imports, Pakistan’s armed forces demonstrated superior skill and resilience, changing the regional power balance.

The prime minister invoked the legacy of Pakistan Air Force legends and commended the modern capabilities under Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu’s leadership. He assured that Pakistan’s forces remain fully prepared to defend the country against any aggression with a decisive response.

Shehbaz Sharif also addressed internal security, alleging India’s involvement in acts of terrorism in Pakistan, including the train hijacking in Balochistan. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace but warned that the desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness.

During his visit, the prime minister received briefings on operational readiness and praised the professionalism of frontline air force personnel. He paid tribute to the sacrifices of armed forces members and assured support for the families of martyrs.

The prime minister’s visit underscored Pakistan’s resolve to safeguard its sovereignty while extending an invitation for peace talks focused on Kashmir.
