ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, expressing concerns over recent provocative statements by the Indian leadership, on Thursday affirmed that Pakistan would resolutely defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in face of any future aggression.
He expressed these views during a telephonic conversation with President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev on Thursday.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan has agreed to the ceasefire understanding with India in the interest of regional peace, and is committed to upholding it.
During their warm and cordial conversation, the Prime Minister conveyed his profound gratitude to President Aliyev for resolutely standing with Pakistan during the recent crisis in South Asia.
He said President Aliyev’s steadfast support was yet another demonstration of his great love and affection for the people of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister also thanked the brotherly people of Azerbaijan for their overwhelming expression of solidarity with Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif said this has once again demonstrated the abiding friendship between the two nations, which always stood by each other as true brothers.
The Prime Minister stressed that Jammu and Kashmir dispute is the root cause of instability in South Asia, which should be resolved in accordance with the UN Security Council’s resolutions.
In this regard, the Prime Minister conveyed his profound thanks to President Aliyev for his country’s steadfast and principled support to the Kashmir cause.
Regarding Pakistan-Azerbaijan relations, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the special, time-tested and brotherly relations between the two countries.
He said Pakistan is fully committed to elevate this friendship to a mutually beneficial economic partnership.
Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction at the progress being made to finalize proposals related to investment worth two billion dollars by Azerbaijan in different sectors of Pakistan.
He also renewed invitation to President Aliyev to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience, which was graciously accepted by the President of Azerbaijan.
On the occasion, the President of Azerbaijan warmly congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Pakistan’s remarkable success.
He welcomed the ceasefire understanding, while appreciating Pakistan’s efforts for peace.
President Aliyev reaffirmed that Azerbaijan is committed to the strengthening of its brotherly ties with Pakistan across all spheres.
PM lauds Azerbaijan’s unwavering support during recent developments
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his profound gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and brotherly people of Azerbaijan for their unwavering solidarity and support for Pakistan during the recent tensions in South Asia.
He was talking to Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan Khazar Farhadov who called on him in Islamabad.
The Prime Minister said the support and solidarity by Azerbaijan during this time, was reflective of the abiding friendship between the two nations.
Deeply appreciating the valiant Armed Forces of Pakistan for the successful conduct of “Operation Bunyan um Marsoos”, the Prime Minister said Pakistani people are grateful to Allah the Almighty for this historic victory.
He stressed that Pakistan is a peace-loving nation and it is in this spirit that it has agreed to accept the ceasefire understanding with India. However, Pakistan stands ready to resolutely defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in face of any future aggression.
On the bilateral note, the Prime Minister highlighted the excellent nature of Pak-Azerbaijan relation and expressed satisfaction at the positive trajectory of bilateral cooperation.
He said Azeri President’s historic visit to Pakistan last July, marked an important milestone by opening up new avenues of collaboration in the areas of economy, trade and investment.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong desire to elevate the fraternal ties to a mutually rewarding economic partnership.
The Azeri ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for peace in South Asia and warmly felicitated the Prime Minister and the entire Pakistani nation upon the success.
