UN urges Pakistan, India to step back from the brink of military clash

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called for Pakistan and India to “step back from the brink” amid escalating tensions following a terrorist attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Guterres warned that the situation could spiral into a military confrontation, urging both nations to exercise maximum restraint.

The UN chief offered his good offices to mediate between the two countries, highlighting the importance of diplomacy over military action. He condemned the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 people, and reiterated his call for a transparent investigation. The situation has prompted several international bodies, including Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council, to urge both countries to de-escalate and resolve their issues through dialogue.
