Breast cancer most common in Sindh, study reveals

A four-year academic study from Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) has found breast cancer to be the most common malignancy in Sindh. The study, conducted in collaboration with several prominent medical institutions, analyzed cancer data from 2020 to 2023 and found that oral cancer was the most prevalent among males, while breast, oral, and ovarian cancers were most common among females.

The research, which reviewed 7,169 cases, revealed that 97.18% of malignancies affected individuals aged 20 and above. Oral cancer, while globally ranked 13th in frequency, was the second most common cancer among females in the region. The study aims to highlight cancer risks and promote cancer control initiatives in the region.
