Child killed, two injured in Karachi building collapse

KARACHI: A two-year-old girl lost her life and two others were injured on Tuesday when a portion of a three-storey residential building collapsed in the Cattle Colony area on Road No 8.

The collapse occurred after the roof gave way, prompting an immediate response from Chippa Welfare, Rescue 1122, the Urban Search and Rescue Team, and local police. Rescue teams evacuated residents and cleared debris while navigating narrow streets that hampered their operations.

A 55-year-old man, Ashiq, and a 50-year-old woman, Kamal Khatoon, were pulled from the rubble and given initial treatment before being shifted to a nearby hospital. The incident falls under the jurisdiction of Sukhan police station.

Authorities have begun a legal and technical investigation to determine the cause of the collapse. Findings from the inquiry are expected in due course, according to the SSP Malir spokesperson.
