Heavy snowfall forces closure of Kaghan Valley to tourists

KAGHAN: The entry of tourists into Kaghan Valley was banned on Sunday due to heavy snowfall in Mansehra district.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Khalid Iqbal confirmed that the area between Kaghan and Naran had been closed to tourists, with all hotels in the region also shut down.

The inclement weather has caused suspension of both cellphone service and power supply in the area.

“The road connecting Mansehra to Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has been blocked due to the heavy snowfall,” he said, adding, “Police personnel stationed at checkpoints over the mountains have been instructed to vacate their posts.”

The deputy commissioner noted that the land connection between Mansehra and GB had been severed since the beginning of November due to the extreme weather conditions. He further stated that Naran and other tourist destinations in Mansehra would be reopened to visitors in April.
