Street crime is a loose term used for criminal offences that are taking place in public spaces, and refers to pick-pocketing, and snatching of mobile phones, wallets, purses and cars. When things go wrong, such incidents lead to injuries and even deaths. Besides, there is also the element of targeted killing. Just about every individual in Karachi today has a story to tell as no one is safe anymore. Unfortunately, the major causes of street crimes appear to be unemployment, illiteracy and poverty, but there are other factors as well, like lawlessness, growing fundamentalism, backwardness and double standards prevailing in society. The provincial government should take serious steps to control street crimes.
