The official who had grabbed media hype about so-called ‘irregularities’ in elections and sudden awakening of his conscience subsequently backed out of his statements, leaving one wondering if this is the stuff the officers are made of these days. Bureaucrats, military officers and politicians are manifesting lack of integrity and ethical values. As the social order is disintegrating, the selection process and training of officers, both civil and military, are degenerating. The official concerned was neither a fool nor a patient of clinical depression. Yet he chose to behave the way he did. Why? He deserves to be given an exemplary punishment.
