Plastic bags can turn good fertile land into barren land as they can take more than 500 years to fully decompose. Moreover, scientists also believe that plastic bags can cause deadly diseases, such as cancer, birth defects, immune damage and asthma. According to estimates, more than billions of plastic shopping bags are being used in Pakistan, and the use is going up every year by about 15 per cent. It is essential that the government take measures to reduce the use and sale of plastic bags. Moreover, it should create awareness among the people about health risks and loss of fertile land becasue of the use of plastic bags.
