Tank police repulse attack on police station; Karachi Police foil terror plot

TANK/KARACHI: The district police repulsed a terrorist attack on a police station late the other night while the Karachi Police also foiled a terror plot, by seizing 3,000 detonators brought to the city from Hyderabad.

According to a police spokesman, unknown militants attacked the Gomal police station with heavy weapons late at night and tried to enter the police station.

The police promptly and effectively retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for quite some time during which Gomal Police SHO Asghar Khan Wazir received bullet injuries in the neck.

However, the attack was repulsed by the valiant police personnel and the terrorists managed to escape while taking full advantage of the darkness.

As soon as the information was received about the incident, District Police Officer (DPO) Iftikhar Ali Shah along with DSPs, SHOs and a heavy contingent of police reached the scene and cordoned off the area. The police also started search operation in the area.

The injured SHO was shifted to a hospital in Tank from where he was referred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Dera Ismail Khan.

Later, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Mehmood Satti visited the CMH to inquire after the health of injured SHO.

The RPO presented a bouquet to the injured SHO and checked the medical facilities being provided to him. He commended the valor and courage of the injured SHO and prayed for his early recovery.

He said that SHO Asghar Wazir shown exemplary performance without caring of his own life, adding that the police force was proud of him. “The determination, courage and high morale of policemen is a valuable asset of the force,” he mentioned.

Karachi police foil terror attack plot

In Karachi, the police on Saturday foiled a plot to carry out a terror attack in the port city when they arrested a man who had brought 3,000 detonators from Hyderabad in a rickshaw.

The police officials said that the man named Anwar, son of Bahadur, who belonged to Swat, had brought the explosives for a terror attack in south of the port city.

They informed that Anwar was transporting the explosives to a house in Baldia Town area of the city for the purpose of storage.

The Force further said that so dangerous were the explosives that they could cause devastation on a large scale at any time. The rickshaw had been impounded, the officials elaborated.

A team of bomb disposal squad was busy defusing the detonators till the filing of this report.
