Pakistan celebrates remarkable triumph in Huawei ICT Competition 2023

ISLAMABAD: The culmination of an inspiring journey, the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-23, orchestrated in partnership with the Government of Pakistan, reached a crescendo at the prestigious Aiwan-e-Sadar. This event marked a significant celebration of the triumph of Pakistani teams, whose exceptional achievements shone brightly in the regional competitions. The event was a testament to the unwavering commitment to excellence in the field of information and communication technology.

Distinguished by their remarkable performance, Pakistani students secured the second and third prizes in the Network Track, as well as the third prize in the Innovation Track at the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Global Final held at the illustrious Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China. This Global Final marked a momentous occasion as the first in-person event since 2019. The competitive landscape encompassed 146 teams from 36 nations, all vying for supremacy.

The lead-up to the grand finale was characterized by the participation of more than 120,000 students from over 2000 universities across 74 countries and regions globally, in the ICT Competition.

The esteemed presence of the Honourable President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi, graced the closing ceremony as the Chief Guest. His presence underscored the significance of the achievements of Pakistan’s brightest young minds.

Earning laurels on the global stage, Pakistani students Muhammad Faeez Ali and Asad Anwer from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, along with Maryam Fareed from Lahore College for Women University, secured the second prize certificate in the Network Track, a testament to their relentless dedication and exemplary skills.

Dr. Arif Alvi acknowledged the robust friendship between Pakistan and China, emphasizing the pivotal role of Huawei in fostering growth and nurturing talent. He lauded the consistent excellence displayed by Pakistani students, underscoring their contribution to the nation’s pride. Dr. Alvi also recognized the symbiotic relationship between industry and academia, which forms the cornerstone of future progress in the realms of Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence.

Mr. Shunli Wang, Vice President of Huawei Middle East & Central Asia, lauded Pakistan’s achievements, highlighting the government’s vision and determination in fostering ICT talent and innovation. He extended his gratitude to the President, Ministry of IT and Telecommunication, and Higher Education Commission for their unwavering support, underscoring their pivotal role in motivating and inspiring generations to come.

The Huawei ICT Competition is an integral part of Huawei’s commitment to nurturing a robust ICT talent ecosystem. Alongside the Huawei ICT Academy, the Innovation Competition, Seeds for the Future program, and joint university labs, this initiative equips young minds with advanced skills necessary for leading digital transformation efforts. This commitment resonates with the ongoing efforts and successes in Pakistan, providing numerous avenues for the youth to excel.

Dr. Umar Saif, Federal Minister of IT & Telecom, echoed the sentiments of pride, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of Pakistani students. He emphasized that Digital Transformation and AI are pivotal components of Pakistan’s vision for the future, applauding Huawei’s role in shaping this trajectory.

As the festivities unfolded, Asad Anwar, a triumphant member of the winning team from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro, expressed his gratitude for the direct linkages created by Huawei’s Talent Ecosystem program. This program has not only honed their skills but also enabled them to represent their beloved country on the global stage.
