KARACHI: Mayor Murtaza Wahab has provided a glimmer of hope to the residents of Karachi, assuring them the upcoming monsoon season is unlikely to bring any major problems.
In a statement, he expressed confidence that citizens will not face significant inconveniences during the monsoon rains.
Wahab highlighted the efforts of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) in intensifying the cleaning of the city’s drains to prepare for the anticipated arrival of monsoon rains.
While acknowledging the inability to predict the exact intensity of rainfall or the possibility of drain overflow, he emphasized that the cleaning process for the drainage channels, particularly focusing on clearing choke points, is currently underway.
This comprehensive four-month exercise will persist throughout the monsoon season to ensure the unobstructed functioning of the city’s drainage system.
Addressing concerns about the administration’s commitment, Mayor Wahab declared that they will actively participate in field operations rather than confining themselves to idle discussions at Cafe Piala.
He reassured citizens that this year’s monsoon rains will not cause any inconvenience, attributing it to proactive measures taken by the administration to better equip the city in handling potential challenges that may arise during the rainy season.
According to the Meteorological Office, the first monsoonal spell is expected to hit Karachi between July 7 and July 8.
