Judge rejects police request for physical remand of Afridi

ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday rejected the police’s request for the physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Shehryar Afridi in connection with the protests that ensued after the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan on May 9.

Under strict security measures, Afridi appeared before ATC Judge Hamid Hussain, who presided over the hearing of both the police’s remand plea and the PTI leader’s bail application.

During the proceedings, the judge dismissed the police’s plea for physical remand and directed the authorities to present Shehryar Afridi in court on July 10, after the completion of his judicial remand.

Furthermore, the court will hear the bail application on July 3.
