PM Shehbaz wants solarization of public buildings at brisk pace

  • Says implementation of measures about alternative sources ensured in budget
  • Expresses condolences with bereaved families who lost loved ones in unfortunate ferry disaster

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reviewed the process of formulation of policy regarding alternative sources of energy especially, solar energy.

During a meeting chaired by him here, the prime minister said the government had ensured in the budget implementation of the measures about alternative sources of energy including solar energy.

He said the process of converting public buildings on solar energy should be expedited. The solar energy will not only reduce the cost of production but will also save precious foreign exchange, he said adding that the policy on solar energy should be finalized as soon as possible.

The prime minister noted that Pakistan had immense capacity to produce solar energy. Federal ministers – Khawaja Asif, Engineer Khurram Dastgir, Syed Naveed Qamar, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Advisor to PM Ahad Cheema, Special Assistant Jehanzeb Khan, Chairman National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (PEPRA) and officials concerned attended the meeting.

The meeting was briefed in detail about the progress on the countrywide solarization projects and on the policy of alternative sources of energy.

Allies consulted on political situation

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held separate meetings with a high-level Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) delegation and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Reham and discussed political situation in the country.

In a meeting with the PPP delegation, the prime minister had a detailed discussion on the current political situation in the country.

Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman, Minister for Water Resources Syed Khurshid Shah, Advisor to PM on Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs Qamaruz Zaman Kaira, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and Senator Nisar Khuro were part of the PPP delegation.

Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar and Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the PPP leadership appreciated the prime minister for measures for public welfare in the budget despite the difficult economic conditions.

Separately, PM Shehbaz Sharif on Friday met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) president Maulana Fazlur Rehman and discussed the overall political situation in the country.

According to a statement issued by Prime Minister’s (PM) office, Federal Minister for Communication Asad Mahmood also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Maulana Fazlur Rehman lauded PM Shehbaz Sharif for allocating funds for development projects in the budget 2023-24 despite financial constraints.

The JUI-F leaders also appreciated the steps taken for the uplift of the merged districts of tribal areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Condolences to bereaved families of Greece ferry tragedy

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday expressed his condolences with the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate ferry disaster in the Mediterranean sea off the coast of Greece.

On his Twitter handle account, the PM said: ‘My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate ferry disaster in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Greece.

He further said Pakistan’s Embassy in Athens had identified 12 Pakistanis rescued by Hellenic Coast Guard. The embassy was in contact with the Greek authorities for further updates.
