KP opposes Disco’s merger with Pesco citing

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has opposed the idea to merge Disco with Pesco, citing severe financial deficit which the Peshawar Electric Supply Company is facing.

According to official sources, to tackle the financial and administrative issues, it was decided to merge the Desco with the Pesco. But, according to the documents, the provincial government does not see the merger a good decision given the current situation.

KP interim Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan has written a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in this regard. It has been apprised in the letter that the Pesco is already bearing a loss to the tune of Rs200 billion per annum and it is also not receiving its dues.

According to the documents, the security situation in the province is far from satisfactory. The Desco and Pesco merger will create more problems in the province.

The chief minister has requested to form a committee comprising of ministers which will look into the matter of electricity supply companies’ transfer to provinces.
