Speaker Ashraf congratulates China on start of lunar new year

ISLAMABAD: Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, the speaker of the National Assembly, felicitated the government and the people of China as they rang in the Lunar New Year on Sunday with its people praying for health after three years of stress and hardship under the pandemic.

In his message, Ashraf expressed his belief that China would continue to progress and develop owing to its national traits of hard work and commitment.

The speaker expressed his confidence that Pakistan-China friendship would not only enable both countries to flourish and develop but regional progress also hinges upon unbreakable ties between the two nations.

He said the successful completion of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects manifested the willingness of both nations and their masses to cooperate for mutual benefit.

Deputy Speaker Zahid Durrani also felicitated Beijing and expressed his good wishes for the progress and prosperity of the Chinese people.

The lunar new year, also known as the spring festival, is a significant annual holiday in China that is based on the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac. This year is the year of the rabbit.

Due to the pandemic, celebrations in the past three years have been limited. However, with the easing of Covid-19 restrictions, many people are now able to travel to their hometowns and reunite with their families without worrying about quarantine or travel restrictions.

Additionally, public celebrations have returned on a larger scale than the previous year, with many cultural events taking place in the capital.
