Afridi reveals reason behind adding Fakhar, Sohail to probables list for NZ ODIs

KARACHI: Pakistan’s interim chief selector Shahid Afridi has been very active since taking up the role last week.

Recently, he added three young players, Minhas, Basit Ali, and Mohammad Zeeshan to the Test squad so they could feel the environment of Test cricket.

Few days back, the selection committee announced 22 probables for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Two more names, Haris Sohail and Fakhar Zaman, have been added to the list due to their good form in the ongoing Pakistan Cup.

“We have added Fakhar Zaman and Haris Sohail to the NZ probables list after they passed their fitness tests today. The two are also playing in Pakistan Cup and doing well,” Afridi wrote.

Fakhar was not initially part of the list and there were questions about whether he was fit or being dropped.

Sharjeel Khan, who last played an ODI in January 2017, was on the list. Shan Masood, who played his last ODI against Australia in 2019, was also there.
Remember, the original 16-member squad for the ODI series will be announced during the second Test.

Probables:

Babar Azam (captain), Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Aamer Jamal, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohal, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Ihsanullah, Imam-ul-Haq, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Qasim Akram, Salman Ali Agha, Shadab Khan, Shahnawaz Dahani, Shan Masood, Sharjeel Khan and Tayyab Tahir.
