Imran expels Vawda from PTI over controversial presser

ISLAMABAD: Senator Faisal Vawda has been expelled from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party after he did not respond “within the stipulated timeline” to a show-cause notice served on him to clarify his position on a controversial news conference he held earlier this week.

Addressing the press on Wednesday, Vawda claimed his party’s march to Islamabad to demand early elections would be “bloody” — despite repeated assurances to the contrary.

He had also claimed, without offering any evidence, that the establishment had “no role in his [Arshad Sharif’s] killing” and that the journalist had no threats while staying in Pakistan.

The event was panned by the party leadership and spurred the issuance of the notice.

“This is in reference to the show-cause notice issued to you dated October 26, 2022, for defying party policy. You have not responded within the stipulated timeline. Therefore, your membership from the party stands terminated,” the communiqué posted on the party’s Twitter account read.
