ISLAMABAD: Expenses adding up to more than Rs203 million over the last four years have been incurred on the vehicles used by the federal cabinet, this was revealed in the National Assembly (NA) session on Friday.
The NA meeting was held under the chairmanship of Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, in which the details of the vehicles used by federal cabinet ministers and their expenses were presented in the House.
According to the Cabinet Division, Rs125 million were spent on the repair of vehicles used by federal ministers and ministers of state while Rs78.6 million were spent on fuel.
In the meeting, the National Assembly also approved the Intergovernmental Trade Transactions Bill 2022 regarding the promotion of economic and business relations between Pakistan and foreign states.
Last month, it was reported that the federal government had given conditional permission to military officers of the rank of lieutenant general and above on retirement to import bulletproof vehicles of up to 6,000CC without paying taxes and customs duties.
A notification issued by the FBR had stated that retired lieutenant generals, army chiefs, chairpersons joint chiefs of staff and committee services chiefs would be exempted from all taxes when importing bulletproof vehicles of up to 6,000CC including customs duty, sales tax, withholding tax and federal excise duty.
However, the Federal Board of Revenue had denied reports that it had issued a notification allowing the import of bulletproof vehicles without paying any taxes or duties.
