Punjab AG in a fix over appeal against LHC order on Hamza oath

LAHORE: A day after announcing to challenge a Lahore High Court (LHC) ruling on oath of office to chief minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz, Punjab Advocate General Ahmad Awais is now in a fix over what to do as there are legal hitches involved in the case that bar him to contest the order.

On Friday, LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti ordered the president to appoint a representative for administering the oath to Shehbaz as Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema expressed his inability to do so.

But the governor directed the advocate general to submit an intra-court appeal against the verdict.

Though Awais said that he would throw a challenge but after seeing legal hitches that would deter him to challenge the decision, he is in a bind to find a way out.

Legal experts wonder how the governor could file an appeal when he was not even a party in Friday’s verdict.

CHEEMA HOSPITALISED

Meanwhile, Governor Cheema fell ill and underwent a series of tests at Services Hospital in Lahore on Saturday.

He complained of food poisoning and did not feel good.
