NAB Balochistan files 20 references, recovers Rs6bn in 2021

The National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Balochistan office filed 20 references in the accountability courts, arrested eight accused and directly and indirectly recovered around Rs6 billion from corrupt individuals in 2021, according to a news outlet.

According to the NAB Balochistan’s performance report for the year 2021, the bureau initiated investigations against several former and present members of the Parliament, and senior government officials, following their alleged involvement in more than 150 corruption cases.

The report said 120 references worth billions of rupees of corruption are under trial in the accountability courts.

During the year, eight persons were arrested while in terms of cash, property and jewellery, rupees six billion were recovered from the corrupt elements and submitted to the national exchequer.

NAB Balochistan unearthed major cases of corruption after investigating 550 complaints in 2021.

Under its three-pronged strategy to curb corruption, NAB Balochistan also formed a committee on land issues in Gwadar to bring reforms in the departmental roles that lead to corruption. A working paper was also prepared for bringing reforms in the Balochistan Textbook Board.
