ECP concerned over report on rigging in KP union council

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday expressed reservations over a report submitted by the local District Police Officer (DPO) detailing attempts to rig the voting in Baka Khel union council of Bannu district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja directed the special secretary to complete the investigation by January 4 and present the report to the body.

The commission had postponed the local government elections in the tehsil due to what it termed as the poor security situation in the constituency.

In a statement, the ECP said a new date for the elections will be announced later.

Reportedly, the decision was taken after a complaint was filed with the ECP against a provincial minister for alleged pre-polling rigging and abducting of polling staff and security personnel.
