Unregistered vehicles queued after mandatory imposition of motorway tag

LAHORE: After the mandatory registration of M-tag for vehicles on the motorway, queues of unregistered vehicles which do not possess the same started forming as traffic police did not let the cars through.

People are facing severe difficulties to get M-tag. National Highways and Motorway Police launched a crackdown on vehicles traveling without M-tags preventing them from entering the motorway.

Queues have formed at the M-tag booths making it a hassle for those wanting to arrive at their destinations on time.

While talking to the media, people said there are long queues wherever they go, all the booths of the Lahore-Islamabad (M-2) motorway are busy and it takes 2 to 3 hours to apply for an M-tag.

“Many people are in a state of emergency but are not allowed to travel without M-tag.”

However, the authorities said the main purpose of the change is to reduce the time wasted in several kilometre long queues at the toll plazas. It will also help digitise the whole process and make it a lot smoother.

The police have made M-tags mandatory at toll plazas to reduce congestion. The status of the car sticker can also be checked.

A tag can be obtained from the booth at any toll plaza on the motorway. In order to get M-tag, a national identity card, driving license and vehicle registration must be shown at the toll plaza.
