Court orders release of co-accused in couple harassment case

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday ordered the release of co-accused Umar Bilal Marwat in a couple’s harassment case in Islamabad’s E-11/2 area.

Announcing the verdict reserved in the case on August 12, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri of the IHC accepted the post-arrest bail application submitted by Marwat, and also directed him to submit two surety bonds of Rs1 million each.

Seven persons, including Usman Mirza, chief accused in the harassment case, are currently locked up at Adiala Jail.

Judicial Magistrate Waqar Gondal had ordered the police to submit challan by September 10.

On July 7, 2021, police had arrested a man named Usman Mirza for torturing a couple along with other goons at an apartment located in the precincts of Golra police station in Islamabad.

According to the First Investigation Report (FIR), police had watched a video of a boy and a girl being tortured by some people on social media.

In the video, it could be seen that five to six men were holding them captive at gunpoint.

The accused were seen threatening the girl after stripping her naked. And they kept beating up the couple throughout.
