Former special assistant to prime minister Firdous Ashiq Awan on Wednesday sent a legal notice to Imran Riaz Khan, current affairs host and anchorperson, for claiming that the former was sacked for abusing her authority as the SAPM.
In a notice sent to Khan through her counsel, Firdous demanded Rs2 billion from Khan for maligning her reputation and causing her mental distress.
It said the SAPM is “neither the decision-making authority nor instrumental in any other manner” with regard to the government advertisements. Referring to the claims made by Khan, the notice said: “The process of allocation of work to the advertising agencies working with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the mode of payment and the profits earned by the agencies and the media houses is also incorrect.”
The allegations pertaining to the misuse of official vehicles and staff were baseless, the notice claimed, demanding the anchor to issue a public apology and pay the former PM’s aide Rs2bn in 14 days or face civil and criminal proceedings.
The above would also constitute an offence under Pakistan Penal Code, Defamation Ordinance and other relevant laws for which you are liable to be prosecuted, it concluded.
