The Pakistan Business Coalition (PBC), an association of the nation’s big business houses has expressed its concerns about rising crime in the country.
“There seems to be a crimewave taking place right now,” said Saleem Pansota, Chairman of Pansota Sugar Mills, currently embroiled in a sugar hoarding scandal. “And the government seems to be powerless against these roving gangs hell-bent on depriving people of their hard-earned money.”
“It’s all about safety. If the government can’t ensure that, then why do we even have a government,” asked Omar Butt, CEO of Green Town, the national housing society, currently being in litigation by the residents of 14 villages across the country in allegations of forcibly seizing control of their lands.
“Should we pack up and close shop,” asked Sumair Siddiqui, Chairman of Tri-Star Foods, accused in a recent investigative report by the Punjab Food Authority of having an amount of mercury in their products that was not merely above permissible limits but was downright inexplicable. “We just can’t stomach this state of affairs.”
