ISLAMABAD: Lahore High Court’s (LHC) senior judge Justice Sayyed Muhammad Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi was sworn in as a Supreme Court (SC) judge on Monday.
Justice Naqvi came on the seat which fell vacant after the retirement of former Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa. He will serve as SC judge until 2025.
Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed administered the oath in a ceremony attended by apex court judges, Attorney General Khalid Jawed Khan, senior lawyers, law officers and officers of Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan.
Supreme Court Registrar Khawaja Daud Ahmad conducted the proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony.
The notification announcing the elevation of Justice Naqvi to the Supreme Court was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday.
Hailing from Gujranwala, Justice Naqvi was elevated to Lahore High Court in 2010, Prior to which, he was a practicing lawyer at the Supreme Court and the high courts in between 1988 and 2001.
Justice Naqvi is an avid sports player and has been a member of cricket teams during his academic days.
