ISLAMABAD: Two new cases of poliovirus have been detected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh on Saturday.
In KP’s Khyber district, a three-year-old girl was diagnosed with the poliovirus. She was previously administered polio vaccine during the anti-polio campaign.
This is the seventh polio case reported in Khyber district and 16th in the entire province. The overall tally of polio cases across the country reaches 29.
On Mar 12, two more polio cases were detected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, raising the total tally of cases across the country to 29.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Emergency Operation Centre for polio confirmed one new polio case for the year 2020 in District Nowshero Feroz.
This takes the total tally of Sindh to 9 and Pakistan to 30 for the current year.
According to a statement released by the EOC, a four-year-old girl – experiencing weakness in her facial muscles among other symptoms since February 23 in UC Lalia – contracted the polio virus.
So far the child has received seven doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV) according to parents with no inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) administered, as investigation is still in progress.
