–PM ‘condemns’ Nankana Sahib incident, says it goes against his vision
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday said the attack on Nankana Sahib gurdwara was against his vision, vowing to hold the culprits accountable for their actions.
Taking to Twitter on Sunday, the prime minister highlighted that there was a distinct difference between the incident that occurred in Nankana Sahib on Friday and the continued attacks on Muslims across India.
“Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision supports the oppression of minorities as well as targeted attacks against Muslims.”
The PM added that the Indian police, supported by the government, are leading attacks against Muslims residing in the country.
“RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) goons conducting public lynchings, Muslims being violated by mobs are all not only supported by the Modi government but Indian police lead anti-Muslim attacks.”
On Friday, police had to step in amid rising tensions in Nankana Sahib after a heated debate at a tea stall threatened to blow into a big law and order issue, official sources said.
Reports said four customers while taking tea at Zaman’s stall in front of Gurdwara Janam Asthan started a conversation about his nephew, Muhammad Ehsaan, who came into the limelight a few months ago after being accused of forcing a Sikh girl to convert in order to marry her.
Zaman reportedly reacted with anger, which led to a confrontation between the two groups. A small crowd gathered to raise slogans. A team of Nankana Sahib police had to intervene briskly to control the situation.
In a statement on Sunday, Interior Minister Ijaz Shah also assured that his government would bring culprits in the dock.
“The government is standing alongside the minority community and the accused persons will be dealt in accordance with the law in Nankana Sahib incident,” the minister added.
He said the enemies of the country were busy in hatching “conspiracies” and such anti-state elements wanted to destroy the atmosphere of brotherhood in the country.
Shah termed those going against the religious tolerance as ‘biggest enemies of the country”. Ijaz Shah said media and social media will expose the truth in the incident.
