Fog disrupts train and plane schedules

LAHORE: Dense fog has disrupted not only routine life but also the trains schedule across the country due to which passengers are facing problems, delaying their plans while experts see no respite from the prevailing harsh weather conditions during the next couple of days.

According to the Pakistan Railways (PR) sources on Sunday, arrival and departure of several trains were behind schedule.

The names of late trains and the time they took to start their respective journeys include 1-Up Khyber Mail that was 2:30 hours, 2-Down Khyber Mail that was 2:10 hours, 5-Up Greenline Express train that was 3:45 hours, 6-Down Greenline that was 4:48 hours, 8-Dn Tezgam train that was 30 minutes late, 9-Up Allama Iqbal Express that as 5:40 hours, 11-UP Hazara Express that was 7 hours, 12-Down Hazara Express that was 4 hours, 13-Up Awam Express that was 3:20 hours, 14-Dn Awam Express that was 5:50 hours late and 15-Up Karachi Express that was 7:20 hours and 16-Down Karachi Express that was 8:15 hours late.

Similarly, 17-Up Millat Express was 6:45 hours late, 23-Up Akbar Express train was 5 hours late, 27-Up Shalimar Express train was 4:15 hours late, 28-Down Shalimar Express was 5:25 hours late, 30-Down Sindh Express was 2:25 hours late, 33-Up Pak Business Express was 8:35 hours late, and 34- Down Pak Business Express train was 6:15 hours late.

Further, 36-Down Sir Syed Express train was 5:34 hours late while 37-Up Fareed Express was 3:45 hours late, 38-Down Fareed Express was behind schedule by one hour, 39-Up Jaffar Express was delayed for 2:40 hours, 41-Up Karakoram Express kept passengers waiting for a good 11:20 hours, 42-Dn Karakoram Express was 8:50 hours late, 45-Up Pakistan Express was 9:40 hours late, 46-Down Pakistan Express was 1:25 hours late, 47-Up Rehman Baba Express was delayed 6 hours late and 48-Down Rehman Baba Express was 6:20 hours late.

Karachi-bound Jinnah Express train left 1:30 hours later than it was supposed to, Karakoram Express was 2:15 hours, Shah Hussain Express was 2 hours behind schedule, Karachi Express was stationary for 3:30 hours, Akbar Express for Quetta remained at the station for 1:30 hours and the Pak Business Express train left 3:30 hours later than it was supposed to.

Further, flight operations in multiple cities have also been disrupted as some planes were unable to land as visibility dropped to 100 meters.

Due to the fog, the administration of Multan Airport turned the flights towards Karachi and Lahore airports. Saudi Airline’s flight coming from Jeddah was moved to Karachi airport. Another flight coming from Saudi Arabia was destined to Lahore. Qatar Airline’s flight coming from Doha has been delayed for more than three hours. According to civil aviation sources, the flight operations will be resumed as per schedule soon, after extreme foggy condition will lower down.

On the other hand, motorways of Khanewal, Multan and Sukkur have been closed due to fog.
