Power division directed to ensure interrupted electricity supply during Ramadan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday directed the power and energy divisions to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the holy month of Ramazan – especially during the Suhoor and Iftar timings.

The premier observed that the installation of expensive power generation plants in the on foreign loans while overlooking the transmission and distribution system was a criminal mistake. He further directed the power division to revamp the power transmission system so that the line-losses can be overcome.

While reviewing the circular debt, the prime minister was told that it has mounted to Rs450 billion rupees during the fiscal year 2017-18 alone. He was informed that the reason behind the colossal increase in debt is the controversial policies by the previous government which directed the ministry to “supply electricity even to the areas with 100 per cent pilferage”.
