CII asks govt to enforce stronger punishment for misuse of Fatwas

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Tuesday said that the government must mete out stronger punishments against those misusing their power to issue fatwas, a local media outlet reported.

The demand was made as the CII held a meeting in Islamabad presided over by its chairman, Dr Qibla Ayaz.

Ayaz said that the Paigham-e-Pakistan document prepared earlier this year by the council, had support from senior clergy members from all four mainstream schools of thought in Pakistan.

Ayaz explained that it was the responsibility of the government to implement the recommendations made in Paigham-e-Pakistan.
